| The Canadian
Dachshund Lovers Page was inspired by The Western Dachshund
Club. They hold events of interest to all
Dachshund Owners in British Columbia, and Western Canada. The
Western Dachshund Club also hosts an Annual
Championship Specialty Show in October at the Tradex
Centre in Abbotsford, BC, and a fun day, "Dachshund
Picnic and Wiener Walk" for all Dachshunds on the
second Sunday in August at Winskill Park in Tsawassen,
Delta, BC. I'm your host,
Bob Brennert.

dachshund:
- "A small dog of a breed developed in Germany
for hunting badgers and having a long body, a usually shorthaired brown or
black and brown coat, drooping ears, and very short legs."
Finding a Dachshund
If you're hoping to find a Dachshund posted here available in
your area, you might be waiting a quite a while. Please contact
a local breeder on my Canadian Breeders page, that is
available on the inside pages.
Or...
How about adopting and older dog? the
Canadian Dachshund Rescue is always looking for good homes
for dogs that for one situation or another can no longer live
with their original families.
The
Dachshund Rescue of North America is a great place to look as
well. They have an advanced search tool that let's be very
specific about the kind of dog you're looking for.
You can also try
PetFinder.com.
It's a website that lets you search for dogs at shelters
throughout North America by dog type and location.

What/Who
is Wienerdogs? Well, the Wienerdogs site has
been on the Web since 1997, however it started out as
www.dachshund.bc.ca. The site started out as just a fun thing to
do but quickly grew into what you see here today. I'm
continually updating the page as time permits, and all the new
stuff shows up on this page, just below, so keep an eye on it! And here's a
tip: Most of the links have pop-up pictures, so if you
have a popup killer, you should disable it before proceeding.

Do you have a question you would like ask a breeder? Our network
of experienced Dachshund breeders is available to answer your
curious or troubling questions. Simply E-mail
Darrin Pettitt @ Admindac Kennel. It might take a few
days for him to get back to you so please be patient. Thanks.
Ann Carey, writer of The Dachshund: An
Owner's Guide to a Happy, Healthy Pet
said:
"I can assure you that there's no dog like this dog. No
companion as comical, as loving or as adaptable. His goal in
life is to love you, protect you, and be your very best friend."
And she is right!

In
the tooting your own horn department (or dog in this case), my
two dogs (Toby & Spencer) are now online on YouTube. There's
currently six videos of them. You can see the vids by

Have
you heard the news?.... Well Monopoly has branched out into
various genres and has even taken to Dachshunds. Dachshund-opoly
has your game pieces paying the part of our favourite pals as
they run and dig around the board. Be sure you don't end up in
the "Kennel"!
Your kids always putting dirty dishes into a clean dishwasher?
Well I may have a solution for you. This
little
Dachshund featured magnet can be used to let the kids know
if the dishwasher is clean or not. Whether or not they pay
attention to it is your problem.
I'm
still trying to figure out where this is... Google Maps is of
no use whatsoever!
There is Hot Dog Street in
Fayetteville, NC and in Frankfort, IN. You'll find a Hot Dog
Lane in Beulaville, NC and there's a Hot Dog Road in
Greene, ME.
A Sausage Road is in, Fairplay, KS.
Washington-Chappell Hill, TX sports a Sausage Ln. And finally
there's a Sausage Lane in Lexington, SC.
None of them the
intersect.
The
TV show Animal Attractions
did a feature on Dachshunds, but you most likely missed it.
Thank goodness Al Gore invented the Internet and someone else
invented You Tube!
In the "What Are They Thinking" department...
The Diver Training Center at Vladivostok Maritime College
Russia carried out an unusual experiment for the 15th anniversary of
the college. The divers persuaded the center’s director, Sergei
Gorbunov, to send his pet dachshund, Boniface, into the depths.

The dog-motivated divers made a striped diving suit for
Bonnie, as they fondly call the dog. They made a square mask out
of Plexiglas thinking the dog may want to breathe under water.
I'm not too sure the dog is happy about this.

I
love these little guys. Might just have to gets a set for my
lovely bride for Christmas!
I
keep finding really cool little graphics of Doxies. This little
one is one of my favourites.
(Touched up a bit though.)
We've all see those black framed posters all about
motivation,
teamwork, dedication, etc... And now I found one for
Dachshunds.
Sad Really.
From the book "Ghost Stories of the Pacific Northwest" by
Margaret Read MacDonald: According to the Spokesman Review in
Walla Walla Washington: Marsha Moore had proof her house was
haunted when her Dachshund dog Gretchen ran up the stairs and then
take to the air. "She just started floating and then it was like
something threw here back down the stairs". Yikes!
Tired
of paying to much for dog treats. There's nice little site that
has doggie treat recipes.
Do you need help training your Dachshund. They're are stubborn and
easily distracted.
This website might just help a bit... Good Luck.
One
day while shopping for dog food I spotted this display at a local
pet store for dog doors. It's Interesting to think that Doxies
would require a dog door... Mine use a cat door! But don't tell
them it's for cats. Oh the shame of it!
Mean while in New York a cabbie has no idea why people are
laughing at his taxi cab. |
We know Picasso had a Dachshund called Lump (poor thing) which he
painted many times. He didn't actually paint the dog, he painted a
likeness of the dog onto canvas. But did you know he even painted
it onto a
kitchen
plate?
It
never ceases to amaze me just how many porcelain Dachshunds there
are. Every trip to the Internet uncovers another... Generally
they're said to have originated from China.
Have you see the book "Buddy the Wiener Dog" by Dianne
Hendry? It's cute little story
about
Buddy (the dog) and the world around him. It's also available for
Kindle. But be sure you have a colour Kindle as the illustrations
are half the fun.
You Tube is full of Wiener Dogs doing funny things,
including my own. But I found a cool video of a
Doxie running in ultra slow motion.
Speaking
of books, just like the link to the left,
Vince Stead has book that goes a bit more depth than the site.
It's The "How to Understand and Train your Dachshund Puppy or Dog
Guide Book."
It's available online, but only for Kindle.
With a need for two ne dog crates I headed of to pet store
after pet store and finally ended up at Wal-Mart. There I found an
inexpensive crate for $22 and
it
features a Dachshund as the selling point. It was fate.
Got
a birthday card in 2010 that had me laughing. Can't understand why
I never thought of it myself. You'll get it when you see it.
...You can
just hear the music and the words. |

Our Featured Friends
The dogs and I were at the
Weiner Walk in Tsawwassen for the first time.
We really
enjoyed it and no doubt will be back next year.
My dogs
are called Angel, 8 months and Miry, 4 years old. They won for
the best pair costume.
Since I have owned a dashound I
would never want a different breed. They are both so part of my
life and I take them everywhere.
Angel and Miry run
around the garden playing and have so much fun. It is such a
hoot to watch. Miry tries to keep up to Angel but is difficult.
It does keep Miry fit so that is a good thing.
Thanks
again for a great time at the Weiner Walk.
Marie, Miry &
Angel

If you would like to see your Dachshund on display here as our
featured Dachshund, just E-mail me with the following: a quality electronic photo of your wonderful pet along with his/her name, your name, what city you live in and something about your Dachshund. Every few weeks I'll pick one of the Dachshunds sent to me and post the photo along with their story.
